Great Wall of China Trek Five-day trek and cultural discovery Our Great Wall Trek takes you to the remote mountains north of Beijing. Take in the views as we trek along some of the most scenic and historic parts of the wall, and then relax in comfortable hotel and guesthouse accommodation each night. We set out from Beijing and visit the Eastern Quing Tombs at Hebei, resting place of 13 Ming Dynasty emperors.
Traversing ancient trade routes, Gubeikou Great Wall clings to precipitous mountain ranges and is heavily fortified with 143 beacon towers. Each tower is uniquely designed, and some are large enough to accommodate a garrison of 100 soldiers. The most striking section of the wall runs from Jinshanling to Simatai, where the Wangjinglou Tower marks the highest point of the wall at 980m above sea level. Mutianyu Great Wall is a well preserved though rarely visited section of wall. It is accessed from the village of Mutianyu, a working village which retains its traditional rural character. At Jiankou the wall is constructed of distinctive white stone and follows jagged cliffs above precipitous drop-offs. Here we climb the Sky Stairs, a narrow and very steep staircase, and view the tower known as The Eagle Flies Facing Upward. We conclude our trek with a tour of the cultural highlights of Beijing and Shanghai. Spend a day exploring Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City then enjoy an evening Gong Fu performance incorporating traditional story telling with martial arts and dance. We spend a morning in the beautiful gardens and pavilions of the Summer Palace, playground of the Quing dynasty Emperors and enjoy some free time exploring this fascinating city. A sun-rise crossing of the Yangzte River welcomes us to cosmopolitan Shanghai. Visit the elegant French concession and discover the modern art scene of Moganshan Road. We complete our day with drinks at the Glamour Bar on the Bund, watching the sun set over the Yangtze. BONUS ADVENTURE Add on a Terracotta Warrior Tour for just $900pp twin share.
