Kokoda Track Trek 7-day trek across the historic military trail
The Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea is one of the world’s great hiking trails. Physical fitness and mental strength are essential qualities for those who tackle this challenging but rewarding trek. The 96 kilometre track spans the majestic Owen Stanley Range from Ower's Corner in the south to the village of Kokoda in the north. On this trek you will visit remote highland communities and see first-hand many of the historic battle sites of the Kokoda Campaign of World War Two. Our Kokoda experience begins with a visit to Bomona War Cemetery, the resting place of many Australian soldiers who fought along the track. Setting out from Ower's Corner, we follow the track along high ridges and steep slopes, walking up to 15km each day. Your guide will brief you daily on the military history of the area and your team of porters will set up camp and prepare all meals along the way. Toward the end of our trek we reach the Isurava Memorial, erected on the site of one of the most desperate battles of the Kokoda campaign. Here we conduct a brief ceremony of remembrance and contemplate the values of Kokoda; courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice. From Isurava we hike down to the village of Kokoda for our flight back to Port Moresby. A hot shower and good meal in the comfort of the Port Moresby Yacht Club conclude our adventure. It is vitally important that you are well prepared for this trek. We offer comprehensive advice on all aspects of your preparation and invite you to join our complementary training walks in Brisbane and Toowoomba.
